New Study Proves Us Right.
A new study, just released this week proves what I have been saying in my weight loss classes for over 10 years!
If you’re trying to lose weight and you consume diet soft drinks, you may never, ever succeed!
According to researchers at the San Antonio Heart Study at the University of Texas Health Science Center, people who drink diet sodas are much more likely to be overweight. The researchers went on further to say that they have absolutely no explanation as to why this is the case! (We know and I’ll tell you in a minute)
Specifics of the study indicated that the risk of being overweight or obese increased 65 percent more with each diet drink consumed per day!
The exact numbers are as follows:
Over the course of the study 32.7 percent of all participants became overweight or obese Of those who had two or more diet soft drinks per day, 57.1 percent became overweight or obese!
Why is this so? Well, if you have heard my lectures on complications of weight management, you know that artificial sweeteners are so sweet that when they hit the sweet sensors on the tongue, it sends a signal to the brain that sugar or sweet foods are being consumed. This, in turn, causes the brain to signal the pancreas to produce more insulin in anticipation of the arriving sugar forming food. As you should know, excess insulin production is responsible for all carbohydrate intolerant obesity, hypoglycemia and type II diabetes.
If your members really need a sweet fix from these diet sodas, insist that they consume them with a meal, which greatly reduces the insulin stimulating effect. Drinking these diet drinks on an empty stomach is the worst thing they can do!
